Minimum wage: Obiano worried over new monthly labour cost in Anambra

Willie Obiano

The new national minimum wage of N30,000 takes effect from this month, and will add over N2 billion monthly to Anambra’s wage bill, according to Obiano.

Obiano disclosed this when he received some staff of the Anambra Broadcasting Service and members of the Government House Press Corps who visited him at his country home in Aguleri, in Anambra East Local Government Area. He restated his promise to pay the new wage rate.

He called for concerted efforts towards improving the state’s Internally Generated Revenue to aid the government in carrying out other important expenses for enhancing development of the state.

The governor, who said that he was impressed with the current output of the Anambra Broadcasting Service, noted that he had made plans to get the station accommodated on DSTV.

Obiano disclosed that he watches ABS on YouTube and appreciated the staff for their hard work and resilience, especially the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Uche Nworah.

He said that the state government had invested over N2.9 billion to give the ABS its present digital status. Obiano said that after the implementation of the new minimum wage he would do more interventions for the ABS and its staff.
