Shola Mese Foundation empowers market women in Delta

A Non-Governmental Organization, Shola Mese Foundation has empowered some market women in Koko community, Warri North council area of Delta State.

The empowerment exercise which took place at the weekly Koko jetty market on Wednesday, had twenty market women given financial enablement to help them improve on their businesses.

According to the founder/president of the foundation, Shola Mese,the exercise he said, was in commemoration of the just concluded Mothers’ Day celebrations, noting that, as a humanity driven NGO, the need to celebrate mothers in Koko community, and by extension, Delta state, became imperative, since the role of mothers in the society cannot be overemphasized.

He added that, as an organization; with emphasis on youths, it carries out focused based campaigns against the intake of hard drugs amongst youths, and empowering them with different vocational skills, thereby making them resourceful to the society.

The NGO boss however revealed that, the foundation is a certified member of the Vienna NGO committee on Drugs (VNGOC)/ Committee for Narcotics Drugs (CND), and the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency(NDLEA).

The national coordinator of the foundation, Mrs. Oghenekweve Shola Asigoro, stated that with the numerous programmes and projects undertaken by the foundation; ranging from renovation of NDLEA offices, skill acquisition/ vocational centers, establishment of drug free clubs in schools, and capacity building in prisons and orphanage centres, the organization is poised to align itself with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

She however reiterated that the foundation was charged with the passion to serve humanity and reduce crime through various campaign initiatives,badding that it also believed in providing youths with needed knowledge and opportunities that would support and enable them to make right decisions, and be better informed on what steps to take to avoid drug addiction and abuse.

The foundation which has a plethora of dignitaries as members of its board of trustees, has the foremost legal luminary, Festus Keyamo, as its chairman.
