Gunmen Attack, Set Houses Ablaze, Kill 3 In Benue

Unknown Gunmen suspected to Jukum militia of Taraba State on Tuesday attacked and killed three (3) people at Atsenga village in Ukum local government area of Benue state.
The suspected Jukum militia who were said to have been from Kente village in Wukari Local Government of Taraba State this morning attacked Atsenga village in Ukum Local Government Benue State burning down houses with property worth millions of naira destroyed.
According to Semban Kerepe who spoke to Business Day says trouble started when a Tiv man had a disagreement with his Jukum friend which resulted to a fight between the two of, when he couldn’t challenge his friend physically the Jukum man went back and called his jukum militias which they came well armed as it became a full grown crises.
It will interest you to note that Gbeji, Kente, Igbongum and Vaase settlements are situated along the Border of Benue, Taraba states with Jukum and Tiv living together as good neighbours for over 10 decades.
The Gunmen attacked the Communities and destroyed over three thousands (3000) houses, including a well-furnished hospital belonging to one Terungwa, reports says more than 20000 tuber’s of yams and yam seedlings were burnt to ashes including an old woman named Yanenge Shiva who was burned to Ashe’s in one of the houses.
Business Day confirmed the incidence with the Executive Chairman Ukum local government, Ibellogo who visited the affected areas to access the level of destruction says, he called his Wukari counterpart, Grace Adi they both met at the scene of the incidence and according to him right in their presence, the suspected Jukun youth were still firing sporadically which stop any dialogue that will proffer peace in the area.
“right in our presents the Gunmen were still shooting, at this juncture, we have to run for our dear lives, I, therefore, call on the two commissioners of police representing Benue and Taraba to draft their men to restore peace and other without delay”.
I call on the Benue people at the affected areas not to wage any reprisal attack but maintain calmness for the security personnel are on top of the situation. Council Boss emphasized.
