Nigerian Army reiterates welfare, training of personnel
The 302 Artillery Regiment (General Support) Nigerian Army, Onitsha Commander, Yakubu Bwala, colonel, has assured the command’s officers and soldiers of adequate welfare and training to boost professionalism.
Bwala gave the assurance at the 2018 West African Social Activities (WASA) at the Onitsha Military Cantonment on Sunday.
He commended the General Officer Commanding (GOC) 82 Division Nigerian Army, Major General A.S. Maikobi’s keen interest on welfare of troops, training, operations, regimentations and other core value of military professionalism.
I make brave to say that the excellence performance of the Regiments in its activities is testimony of the Division’s support and backing,’’ Bwala said.
According to him, West African Social Activities is an age long tradition inherited from generations before, starting from the era of West African Frontier Force (WAFF).
The commander said the available records indicated that the social activity was organized by units and formations in the past to celebrate achievements and successes recorded in military operations.
Subsequently, the celebration became an annual event which demands that the Army take stock and reflect on the activities of the preceding year.
“Troops also use the opportunity to socialize, interact as well as ease tension after passing through stress and rigorous time in the outgoing year.
“Personnel that excelled and distinguished themselves are also honoured and rewarded,’’ Bwala noted.
He observed that the annual celebration of WASA has not being steady due to exigency of duty but has been revitalized through the efforts of the Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. T.Y. Burutai by directing all commands to take it as annual routine event.
He thanked the officers and soldiers for their perseverance in series of activities in the out-going year.
The items packaged for the colourful event included cultural dances, dramas, tug-of-war and the comics’ carefully put together for excitement.
