Today I celebrate my political freedom – defecting APC stalwart in A/Ibom

A former chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Akwa Ibom State, Etido Ibekwe who was among scores of people who defected to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) at a mop-up rally in Uyo, the state capital says he is celebrating his political freedom by rejoining his former party.

Ibekwe, a former majority leader of the state house who defected alongside Dan Akpan, a defeated candidate of the APC in the just concluded National Assembly elections said having carefully analysed political activities in the state, he had no choice than to return his former party.

“ I am proud to say that it is only God, who can bring a man to cleanse a house, today PDP is cleansed. It took only you from God to snatch this state from the hands of vagabonds, from the hands of vipers, because we now have absolute peace in Akwa Ibom State,’’ he said.

The former APC chieftain who hails from Essien Udim local government area where Godswill Akpabio comes from lauded Governor Udom Emmanuel for the giant strides taken to bring about relative peace in the state.

“I want to thank you for what you have done for Afe Annang, a socio-cultural group in the state, that the only road to our community was abandoned for several years, it took only you to come and do that road. We were oppressed and suppressed severally, my ward in Essien Udim local government was oppressed. Today, I celebrate my total freedom,’’ he said.

Ibekwe who defeated alongside other members of the APC including the party’s youth leader joins the party on the heels of the return of Ignatius Edet, the leader of Buhari support group who had earlier defected to the PDP.

Also, 25 governorship aspirants collapsed their structures in support of Governor Udom Emmanuel.PDP.
