Private securities firms employ 828,502 Nigerians in 2018

Private security companies operating in Nigeria employed a total of 828,502 Nigerians in 2018, according to a private security guard report by the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS).

BusinessDay analysis from the NBS report shows that both the number of private security guards employed and the number of private security companies created has been on an increase since 2013.

The number increased by 43.3 percent to 828,502 people in 2018 from 578,056 in 2013. Additionally, the number of private guard companies also rose by 38.4 percent within the same periods mentioned above.

The type of people employed are usually Post Graduates with Postgraduate Diploma and Masters qualification, Graduates  with  Bachelor of Science(BSc), Higher National Diploma  (HND)and Bachelor of Arts  (BA) and others with  Secondary School Leaving certificate.

Furthermore, the salaries paid for employees with post graduate qualifications increased to N65,000 in 2018 from N60,000 in 2013, graduates rose to N55,000 from N50,000 and workers employed in the secondary school leaving certificate category earned N25,000 from N20,000
