The Ogun State Government has advised all prospective land buyers in the state for agricultural purposes to verify from the Ministry of Agriculture or Bureau of Lands & Survey the authenticity of any land before making payment.
In a statement signed by Adepeju Adebajo, commissioner for Agriculture, states that the verification is important to prevent prospective land buyers from being swindled by land grabbers.
This means they will have no genuine rights of ownership and may end up paying multiple times or paying punitive charges, the statement states.
The statement also warned that land grabbers should stop this illegal act of selling government lands to the unsuspecting public, as any of them caught will face the Anti-Land Grabbing Law, 2016 of Ogun State.
Adebajo called on all investors and farmers on government acquired land for agriculture who have defaulted in the payment of Annual Ground Rent should update their payment in the Ministry of Agriculture before the end of March, 2018 or have their allocations revoked.
