The Nigerian Stock Exchange NSE All-Share Index and market capitalization depreciated last week by 0.14 per cent to close at 35,439.98 and N12.217 trillion; other indices also finished lower during the week.

However, the NSE Premium index and NSE Banking index rose 0.94 per cent and 1.17 per cent to lend some resilience to the bourse, supported by the NSE Insurance, NSE Oil/Gas, NSE Lotus II, and NSE Pension indices that appreciated by 0.61 per cent, 0.52 per cent, 0.03 per cent, and 0.24 per cent.

A total turnover of 1.326 billion shares worth N14.086 billion in 14,703 deals were traded within the week by investors on the floor of the Exchange as against 1.096 billion shares valued at N17.859 billion that exchanged hands in 16,070 deals in the previous week.

The financial services sector of the Exchange led the activity chart on volume basis, having seen 1.060 billion shares valued at N7.339 billion traded in 8,202 deals. The sector contributed 79.95 per cent and 52.10 per cent to the total equity turnover volume and value respectively.

The industrial goods sector followed with 91.351 million shares worth N2.784 billion exchanged in 933 deals, while the consumer goods sector, with a turnover of 70.187 million shares valued at N3.395 billion and traded in 2,719 deals came third.

Trading in the top three equities – Continental Reinsurance Plc, Sterling Bank Plc and Access Bank Plc – accounted for 31.14 per cent and 10.55 per cent of the total equity turnover volume and value respectively.

412.840 million shares of the three equities valued at  N1.486 billion were traded in 817 deals in the week.

   Also traded during the week were a total of 274 units of Exchange Traded Products (ETPs) valued at N636,147.90 executed in 18 deals versus 58 units valued at N90,475.00 transacted in 5 deals as at the end of the previous week.

Information from the NSE showed that 32 equities appreciated in price during the week, higher than 25 equities that appreciated the previous week, 32 equities depreciated in price, lower 35 equities that dropped prices the previous week.

107 equities remained unchanged during the week, lower than one 111 equities whose prices remained unchanged in the preceding week.
