“As a regulatory body of professionals in information and communication technology, we are to regulate, standardise and reposition the Council in order to allow training and retraining of youths and professionals that will be deployed for develop various programs and apps that earn billions of foreign exchange for Nigeria.
“I read in the media that a boy developed a game app which will be downloaded all over the world, and if he sells it for one dollar, calculate how much dollars he will make on it. This is what we want to be doing at the Computer Professionals Registration Council of Nigeria (CPN).
“We want to fight quackery, we want to develop more consciousness, interest and focus on ICT to earn not only means of livelihood for Nigerians, but to secure our country and discourage myriad of abuses for which some Nigerian youths use social media and ICT.”
When asked about possible partnership that may occur between the Council and Federal Government through the Ministry of Communications, Sodiya stated that if voted in as the President of the Council on Thursday (today), he will rally round over 5,000 membership of the Council to help government tap potentials in ICT and develop apps and programs that address some challenges in the country.
The Professor of Computer Science and Information Security said though Nigeria does better in terms of ICT and online programming in the comity of developing countries, he however noted that youths and professionals could do much more to help develop Nigeria in various areas with robust application of information and communication technology.
“We must strive to do more explore huge potentials in ICT, that is exactly what I’m coming in to do to. We have over 5,000 members, but they are losing interest, I must get them involved to partner government on ICT development. Though, we have not gotten to where we are supposed to be, we are not doing badly.”
