Eze Innocent Nwaigwe, the traditional ruler of Okaiuga Alaike, Ohuhu in Umuahia North Local Government Area of Abia State, has called for a special skills acquisition programme to be set up for civil/public servants so as to prepare them to be self-employed after retirement.

Nwaigwe made the call when he led his community on a courtesy visit to the Executive Chairman of Umuahia North L.G.A, Hon. Chidiebere Nwachukwu, at his office.

The traditional ruler, who blamed the travails of pensioners in the country on the fact that most of them had nothing to fall back on after retirement, noted that the Nigerian Civil Service was populated by staff who only relied solely on salaries. He also condemned the criminal attitude of some public servants who falsified their ages in order to remain in service even when they had attained retirement age.

He revealed that their visit was to congratulate the Chairman on his electoral victory as well as convey a “truck load of prayers” and support to him.

Eze Nwaigwe urged the council boss to embark on people’s need-projects so as to leave indelible marks on the sands of time, while also promising that his people would remain peaceful and law-abiding to his administration

Responding, the council boss, Nwachukwu, expressed his amazement at the love shown him by Okaiuga Alaike people and promised not to disappoint them.

Nwachukwu disclosed that his administration had started some great projects in tandem with his pre-election promises.

He further informed them that Nkwoegwu market would soon be re-modeled to attract inter-state traders, while urging them to continue in their support to Governor Okezie Ikpeazu.
