Senate has asked its Committee on Federal Character to look into plans by the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) to introduce speed limit policy and sell the device to road users.
This followed a Point of Order from Dino Melaye at Thursday plenary.
Melaye called on the Senate to stop the policy, saying it would unleash more hardship on the people.
According the the lawmaker, the policy would further make life difficult for Nigerians who are already having a hard time coping with the impact of economic recession.
He added that in other countries, it was standard practice for government to bear the cost of installation of speed limit devices and not its citizens.
“The FRSC is planning to introduce speed limit device and this device is to be sold to individuals and if you have two cars, you will buy two speed limit devices. This is not the time to bring economic hardship upon the already traumatised people of this country,” he said.
In his remarks, Senate President, Bukola Saraki, directed the Committee on Federal Character and Inter-Government Affairs chaired by Tijjani Yahaya Kaura to investigate the matter.
