The National Caretaker Committee of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has called on the Zamfara State Governor Abdullaziz Yari to resign for attributing the outbreak of Meningitis to God’s punishment.

A statement by the National Publicity Secretary of the party, Dayo Adeyeye in Abuja on Wednesday, said the mismanagement of Cerebrospinal Meningitis by the All Progressives Congress (APC)-led Federal Government is an embarrassment to the nation.

Adeyeye described as shameful, the statement credited to Yari where he attributed the renewed outbreak of the disease to flagrant disobedience to God.

In an interview he granted in Hausa shortly after meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari, Yari who doubles as Chairman, Nigerian Governors Forum (NGF) said fornication was the main reason God was punishing Nigeria with meningitis.

But the caretaker committee described the statement as worrisome, adding that: “This is shameful and very unfortunate as the APC has run out of reasons to blame previous PDP administration but it’s now blaming God for its failures.

“Governor Yari should not blame God for his failures but that of his Party, the APC, to avoid incurring God’s anger on their crass ineptitude in governance. However, we wish to advise him to resign immediately for making such statement as a state Governor and the Chairman of Governors Forum who is supposed to bring hope to the people and not despair”.

The PDP spokesperson called on the Federal Government to stop playing politics with the outbreak and do everything within its power to end the menace.
