Six states, including Edo State, are to benefit from a N2 billion global fund. Rebecca Bassey, country representative of National Elimination Programme (NEP), made the disclosure during a visit to the state governor, Godwin Obaseki, in Benin City, the state capital.
Bassey also disclosed that a total of 2.6 million Edo people would be empowered with Long Lasting Insecticidal Nets (LLIs) during the organisation programme, as the National Elimination Programme (NEP) was aimed at distributing LLIs.
She however sought the state government’s assistance in the provision of warehouse to keep the LLl bed nets when they finally arrived the state.
In his remark, Governor Obaseki, who lauded the organisation for its initiative, promised to assist it in the areas of publicity, security and other logistics.
Obaseki, who also described the programme as timely, noted that the people to be engaged in the state’s agribusiness initiative would enjoy a mosquito-free environment when the exercise fully commenced.
He however set up a committee that would work with the team.
The governor named members of the committee to include the deputy governor, Philip Shaibu, chief of staff to the governor, Taiwo Akerele, permanent secretary of Edo State Ministry of Health, and the governor’s chief security officer.
