GEMS3 launches Land Expo in Kano, registers 120,000 owners

Growth Employment in States (GEMS3) programme said it registered over 120,000 residents in three local government areas of Kano State under the Systematic Land Title Registration (SLTR).
The STLR Coordinator, Maikudi Haruna, disclosed this during the launching of Kano land expo in Kano on Wednesday. He listed the  local government areas as: Tarauni, Dala and Fagge.
The GEMS3 programme in Nigeria is a partnership between the Federal Government, DFID and EU.
He said the programme was aimed at reducing poverty by increasing growth, incomes and jobs in selected States as well as by addressing issues relating to land, tax and investment.
He said that the Expo showcased how Systematic Land Title registration (STLR) project had made it cheaper, quicker and easier for people to register their land at the cost of N5,000 and N10,000 for residential and business plot of land respectively.
‘The SLTR identifies Opportunities for core traders in Kano, highlights gaps in provision of services such as education, healthcare and access to water.
‘The SLTR offers various solutions to support Social stability and the provision of skills and training for core groups especially women.
“SLTR is the most cost effective way to gather data to improve governance and create a business environment to support investment,” Haruna said.
He disclosed that plan had also reached advanced State to register no fewer than 60, 000 plots of land in the State.
In his remarks, the Kano State Governor, Abdullahi Ganduje said the decision by the State government to embrace STLR was to ensure proper land management and administration.
He expressed hope that the partnership between the State government and GEMS3 would ensure efficient land administration in addition to  creating more investment Opportunities in the State.
‘We will continue the STLR exercise until we finish the remaining 41 local governments in the State.’
He called on investors to make the best use of the opportunity to invest in the State.
