The fuel station of the Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport, Kano, on Wednesday, went up in flames at about exactly 7.40am.

Eyewitnesses said they noticed thick smoke billowing from the station and quickly notified firefighters, who rushed to the scene to quell the fire after raging for about 30 minutes. Two technicians were said to be injured while attempting to prevent the fire from spreading to other parts of the fuel station.

Efforts to contact airport officials were fruitless, but an aviation security personnel, who was not mandated to speak to the press, confirmed the incident.
