Edo State House of Assembly has passed a resolution prescribing a 10 years jail term for any member of the public that forcefully and illegally occupy any landed property in the state.
The lawmakers resolution was contained in a bill for a law to prohibit forcefully and illegal occupation of landed property by Community Development Association (CDA) in the state.
The legislators also imposed a fine of N2 million on any person who contravenes the provisions of the law.
Recall that the Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki had sent an  executive bill to the House of Assembly with a view to prohibit the activities of Community Development Association in the state.
The bill prescribed that no youth organizations or other body by whatever name shall demand or collect any fee or levy in whatever guise in respect of construction or development activities in any property in the state.
Passing the bill, the speaker of the House, Justine Okonoboh said ” the bill prescribed that no person or group of persons while acting for themselves or acting as agents or members of a community Development Associations.
”The bill also prescribed that a task force shall be established in the state which shall be responsible for the provisions of the law.
“Any person who contravenes the provisions of the law commits an offense and shall be liable for ten years imprisonment or a fine of two million Naira”, he said.
