Akwa Ibom State Government has solicited partnership with the US in the areas of health, education, technology and capacity building to boost economic activities.
Udom Emmanuel made the request when he received the United States of America ambassador to Nigeria, William Stuart Symington and the Consul General John Bray who called on him at the Government House, Uyo, the state capital.
According to the governor, Akwa Ibom State is ready for strategic partnership with developed countries to fast track development adding that the state has reliable infrastructure, security, transparent legislation in addition to the abundant resources that could be developed for sustainable economic growth.
“ If America would join hand to turn global focus to Akwa Ibom, that will be great and the state will change not as a village but as a global city. We are conversant with those things that would enable us realise our dream and we are working assiduously to provide the three key things which are security, reliable infrastructure, and transparent Legislation”
The Governor who acknowledged the investment strides of the US in the developing countries solicited that such gesture TO be extended to Akwa Ibom state stressing that the state has common identity as God`s own state like the USA.
The Governor who expressed delight at the visit of the envoy opined that “the western world should help the developing nations in the transfer of technology because what makes the difference is not the resources but superior technology to harness the resources.”
Earlier, William Stuart Symington said he was in the state to explore areas of cooperation and that the interaction and knowledge gained would form the framework for such collaboration.
The envoy who described the Governor as “a world class man” said that Nigeria is rich in natural and human resources which could be utilised to create sustainable development. He sued for team work and peaceful coexistence among states in the country, saying “it takes the village to raise the world” and that the rural community requires integration to build the global village. The Envoy who congratulated Governor Emmanuel on the vision of steering affairs of the state to attract global attention, noted that US and Nigeria have a long history of economic partnership in the areas of education, health, infrastructure and science noting that such partnership would be extended to benefit the state.
