The crisis rocking the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) was further deepened on Thursday, as Borno state chapter of the party disowned the National Chairman Ali Modu Sheriff and declared its loyalty to the National Caretaker Committee led by Senator Ahmed Makarfi.
This happened just as Makarfi warned that the way things are going in the party, there may be no PDP in its present form by August.
The Borno PDP, which paid a solidarity visit to Makarfi and members of the Caretaker Committee, in Abuja on Thursday added that despite alleged threat and intimidation from Sheriff – who also hails from Borno State – they refused to abandon the caretaker committee.
The delegation under the aegis of Borno state PDP Concerned Grassroot Stakeholders, led by Usman Danjuma Ibrahim, said that its “members have passed through various threats, financial inducement and intimidation by Sheriff. He installed state exco for our members to leave the party, but we stayed firm due to the love we have for the party”.
The Borno state PDP appealed to Makarfi-led Caretaker Committee to carry them along in decisions that concern the state.
Responding, Makarfi said that they are open to political resolution provided it is genuine, sincere, comprehensive, democratic, legally water tight.
