The Institute of Information Management (IIM) has announced plans to engage various stakeholders to seek ways for the successful implementation of the national economic recovery and growth program recently released by the Federal Government of Nigeria at its 2017 annual lecture, induction and award ceremony.
The event will also recognise and honour different stakeholders including past and present public office holders, captains of industries including leaders in different sectors of the economy.
Speaking on lecture theme, Oyedokun Oyewole, President and Chairman Board of Directors/Governing Council at IIM – Africa, said that the event is aimed at highlighting the role of information management in supporting and ensuring adequate implementation of the recently released Economic Recovery and Growth Plan (ERGP) by the Federal Government of Nigeria, which is expected to lead to the growth of the nation’s economy by 2.19 percent in 2017 and 7 percent by the end of the planned period in 2020.
“The conference is not only timely but also essential at this point in time for a sustainable and competitive economy and economic transformation with emphasis on improving both public and private sector efficiency, which can only be guaranteed by ensuring proper management and access to information,” Oyewole said.
 
“Successful implementation of the Economic Recovery and Growth Plan will grossly depend and thrive only on timely, accurate and strategically relevant information. There would be need for private and public sectors to embrace information management and analytics to improve productivity and enable innovation,” he added.
 He said that there is a tremendous economic potential that can be unlocked by using the increasing volumes and diversity of real-time information to make better decisions in a wide variety of sectors, from healthcare to manufacturing to retail to public administration as the economic recovery and growth plan seek to give attention to macroeconomic stability; economic growth and diversification; competitiveness and business environment; governance and security.
 According to Oyewole, “promoting access to information in government and other institutions will play a vital role in maximising the proceeds of the economic recovery and growth plan. It will enables government agencies and third parties to create innovative products and services using datasets and their outcomes, that are generated in the course of providing public services or conducting research.”
 The conference theme for 2017 is “Information Management: A Strategic Tool for Economic Recovery & Growth”, and special guests invited for paper presentation at the conference are key ministers from different strategic ministries in Nigeria, including Babatunde Fashola, Minister of power, works and housing, Kemi Adeosun, Minister of Finance, Udoma Udo Udoma, Minister, Budget and National Planning and others.
Aside the Lectures, the event will also feature the conferment of the Institute of Information Management (IIM) Fellowship on individuals who have made substantial contribution to the development of the Information Management and Technology profession, its practices or the Institute  of Information Management itself and Honorary Fellows on other professionals with backgrounds outside of Information Management field but are identified as having made significant contributions that impact on the profession and the society or the Institute of Information Management.
