Abia State government has resolved to undertake palliative work on the Isieke-Ibeku to Bende axis of the Bende-Ohafia-Arochukwu federal road to alleviate the sufferings of the people.
The palliative work, according to Abia State Governor Okezie Ikpeazu, will cover the first five kilometres of the road.
Governor Ikpeazu, who was speaking when he received at the Government House, Umuahia, the newly elected executives of the Ibeku Egwu Asaa Development Association led by the president general, Emeka Enyiazu, also directed the secretary to the state government, Eme Okoro to instruct state Ministry of Public Utilities to assess the cost of resuscitating the long abandoned Ugba Ibeku Regional water scheme.
He announced that four transformers woul be given to the community to improve electricity and promised to look into the Umuagu-Emede-Amaoforo erosion site and Umuchime river bridge for attention.
The governor appreciated Ibeku people for supporting his administration and called on the Association to work closely with the government and to give all Ibeku people a sense of belonging.
In his speech, the president General of Ibeku Egwu Asaa Development Association, Emeka Enyiazu appreciated the giant strides of the Governor so far in spite of the economic down turn and series of litigations against him and thanked him for fixing some bad roads in the community including the Ukome, Ossah and Aba Roads among others as well as well as appointing their sons and daughters in his government.
Also, the chairman, Ibeku Traditional Rulers Council, Henry Ezekwem who assured the Governor of the support of Ibeku people at all times told the Governor that Enyiazu was the legitimately elected president General of Ibeku Egwu Asaa and advised him to deal with him and not any other person parading himself as the president General.
According to him, 11 out of the 13 traditional rulers in Ibeku land voted for him even as he enjoyed the support of majority of Ibeku people.
