The Federal High Court sitting in Abuja, has admitted in evidence multiple bank account opening documents belonging to the companies owned by the former governor of Adamawa State, Murtala Nyako,his son Abdulazeez Nyako and seven others who are facing 37 count charges over  N40billion  fraud.

Other defendants are Zulkifikk Abba, Abubakar Aliyu, Blue Opal limited, Sebore Farms and Extension limited, Pagoda Ventures limited, Tower Assets Management Limited and Crust Energy Limited.

Ugwu Remidius, a prosecution witness in the ongoing trial, told the trial Judge, Justice Abang, that  the  multiple accounts were opened by the defendants companies while Nyako was  the governor of Adamawa state.

Led in evidence by the prosecuting counsel, Rotimi Jacobs SAN, the witness, a compliant manager in Zenith Bank, Maitama branch, informed the court that he sent the company’s Bank  Account opening documents, Certificate of Identification, and Account Statements of over 30 Accounts to the Economic and Financial Crime Commission (EFCC) upon a request from the agency.

The defence counsel, however did not object to the tendering the voluminous documents.

Trial Judge, Justice Okon Abang, after reviewing the bank account documents admitted them as exhibits and adjourned to continue trial today.

It would be recalled that the EFCC had on August 7, 2015 first arraigned the retired governor alongside his son Abdulaziz Nyako as well as five firms before the late Justice Evoh Chukwu in June last year .

Among the charges the accused persons were alleged to have converted the sum of 29 billion Naira which were proceeds of theft of funds belonging to the Adamawa State Government to personal use.

The matter was adjourned to February 21, 2017 for continuation of trial.
