Edo State chapter of All Progressives Congress (APC) on Tuesday announced the suspension of about 30 of its over alleged breached of he party constitution.
Those suspended include the vice-chairman in Edo central senatorial district, Henry Okoror over alleged illegal detention of its state chairman, Anselm Ojezua.
BusinessDay reports that a statement by the state party chairman , Anselm Ojezua and made available to newsmen in Benin-City said a committee headed by the party’s secretary in the state, Osaro Idah has been set up to investigate the allegation.
The statement said the committee has one month to submit its report.
It disclosed that the alleged illegal detention and hostage of the state chairman took place January 2, 2017 at Uromi, the home of the senatorial district vice-chairman.
The statement listed other members of the party suspended to include, Francis Inegbeniki, Edo central senatorial leader of the party, Kenneth Ihensekhien, former deputy chief staff to former governor Adams Oshiomhole, Henry Okpamen, also former aide to governor, Adams Oshiomhole.
Others are Francis Ubene, Esan central local government party chairman, Anthony Ibhafidon, youth leader, Esan central local government and Desmond Egbadon, Esan central ward 6 youth leader.
In a swift reaction, Francis Inegbeniki, the suspended party leader in Esan central described his suspension as laughable, unconstitutional, null and void.
Inegbeniki opined that the state chairman of the party has no constitutional right to suspend him except his ward leaders.
He said the purported suspension was occasioned by his petition against the state chairman of the party to the national working committee accusing the chairman of anti-party activities and embezzlement of funds meant for the last September governorship election.
“I am not a member of the executive of the State Working Committee of the party. I am not an executive member of local government area nor a ward executive member and so the state party chairman, Anselm Ojezua does not have the constitutional right to suspend me. The only organ that can suspend me is my ward members.
“I was unanimously elected the leader of the party in Edo central senatorial district and the state chairman cannot cowed me not to expose his antic-party activities in the state especially in the last governorship election where he worked for PDP.”, he said.
He alleged that the party’s state chairman was in emission to destroy the party in the state.
He however urged the state governor, Godwin Obaseki who is the leader of the party in the state, the national working committee and other leaders to nip in the bud the dictatorial leadership of the chairman with a view to save the party from catastrophe.
