Governments at various levels in the country have been urged to set up farms and skills training centers nationwide, to empower youths with life-long skills that would equip them for the future.
Establishing these centers is believed would also contribute to the growth of the nation’s economy.
Auwal Aliyu, a Political Analyst, said the various levels of government must accord priority to the training of youths in various skills, to reduce the high rate of unemployment, social unrest and enhance local economy.
He said:“it is important to utilise available skills acquisition centers, provide all the necessary equipment, encourage the youths to learn skills and then assist them to set up their own businesses.
“This will make them to depend on themselves; they will not be depending on government and it will also boost the economy.’’
Aliyu also urged government at all levels to make land available for agriculture.
“We have a lot of untapped lands for agriculture; open them up, build some infrastructure and perhaps, turn some into a senatorial village farms.
“Provide equipment, seedlings, chemicals and fertiliser, even if it is the organic fertiliser, then organise the youths and allocate them with hectares to cultivate.
“Tell the youths what to plant, engage them sector by sector, monitor them and at the end of the season, provide them with ready market for their produce.
“Replicate this yearly, include dry season farming and see how massive the engagement would be in terms of economic activities, job creation and other opportunities.
“You will find out that at the end of the day, you do not need to go outside to bring any investors.
“This kind of initiative will not only assist the citizens to be economically vibrant but also reduce security threats and youth restiveness in the society,’’ he said. (NAN)
