The minister of Power, Works and Housing, Babatunde Fashola, has urged motorists and commuters on Lagos-Ibadan Expressway to be patient with the government and the contractor handling the reconstruction work on the expressway even as respite returns on that route.
Fashola who made the appeal Monday during inspection of work on the expressway also announced that the long bridge on the expressway has been opened to traffic after the contractor completed repair work on the bridge earlier scheduled for completion on December 31 this year.
Julius Berger, the German construction giant, had been busy repairing sections of the bridge, thereby causing long and snarling gridlock which kept motorists for hours on the expressway with the attendant stress and loss of quality and productive hours of the day.
Though there are still more pains ahead as work on the expressway continues, the minister assured of government’s determination to reduce journey time and carnage on the highways nationwide by make sure that all on-going road construction across the country was given accelerated attention.
The contractor assured that those who would be travelling for Christmas celebration through the expressway would have smooth ride as they were doubling efforts to ensure that work on the expressway was pushed far substantially before the end of the year.
