Ade Obayemi, Lagos State Coordinator, FADAMA III Additional Financing (AF), says the programme has created 2,000 jobs for the teeming population since its inception in the state.
Obayemi stated this in Lagos on Wednesday in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).
He said that the state took full advantage of the opportunities provided by the programme for the benefit of its people.
“As you know, the programme has gone through about three series of FADAMA I, II and now III AF, and Lagos has participated in all of these programmes.
“Since the programme came most of our youth, men and women, have indicated interest and they are now self-employed, “ he said.
Obayemi said 1,359 farmers are currently undergoing training for extension services in the state.
The official added that a total number of 832 women, 537 men and 664 youths have been registered to undergo training in different fields.
“The beneficiaries of this programme are rice producer groups within the production cluster/sites around Badagry, Epe and Ibeju-Lekki Local Government Areas of the state.
“The training is aimed at upgrading the local farmers’ knowledge on modern farming system in rice production.“
He commended the programme for achieving its objectives of creating jobs, wealth and food security in the nation.
