Federal Government has on Wednesday November,2016 , donated 70 tons of Medical Supplies valued at about N150 million to the Cameroonian Government to assist the victims of the train accident at Eseka, Cameroon on Friday, September 21, 2016.
The goods were delivered by a special Envoy, led by the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Khadija Bukar Abba Ibrahim, and was received by the Prime Minister of Cameroon, His Excellency, Philemon Yang on behalf of President Paul Biya, a statement issued on Thursday from the federal Ministry of Health said.
Yang according to the statement expressed the appreciation of his country to President Mohammadu Buhari, and extolled the President’s thoughtfulness in identifying with Cameron at this Period when 80 lives were lost to the train accident and about 700 people were injured.
Also,speaking in Cameroon,the Permanent Secretary in the federal Ministry of Health, Binta Adamu Bello,who represented the Minister of Health Isaac Adewole noted that all drugs donated were manufactured in Nigeria by indigenous Pharmaceutical Companies.
He stated further that President Buhari was committed to empowering local pharmaceutical companies as part of the Change Agenda in the Health Sector., adding that the ultimate goal was to make Nigerian companies compete favorably with their foreign counterparts and make their products acceptable in the global market.
He therefore called on all the Nigerian manufacturers of Medical supplies to comply with internationally acceptable standards and maintain global best practices.
The drugs , which have a minimum shelf life of 18months, comprises of Analgesics, Multivitamins, Antimicrobials, Antispasmodics, Pediatrics Medicines, Anthelmintic, Anti Diarrhea\Amobecide, Anti-Allergies, Corticosteroids, Anxiolytics, Anti –Malarias, Local Anesthetics, Antiemetic’s, Eye Drops\ointments, Infusions, Laxatives, Supplements and other consumables.
The team comprise of the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, who led the delegation, Permanent Secretary Health, Binta Adamu Bello, who represented the Health Minister.
