After participating in a class at the Harvard Business School, Barcelona president Josep Maria Bartomeu’s aim is to generate 1 billion euros over the next five years.

One of the world’s most successful clubs on reputation alone, the Blaugrana have cemented that financially in recent years, following arguably the most successful decade on the pitch at the Camp Nou.

Now in his first full term as Barcelona chief, Bartomeu has never hidden his ambition for the club, and admitted he has big plans between now and 2021, both on a worldwide and local scale.

“We aim to become the most admired, beloved and global club based on a number of business objectives,” he said.

“The future is global, but we must address situations locally too – our fans are owners, meaning they make decisions with their head and their hearts too.”

Supporters were also high on Bartomeu’s agenda, who believes connecting with them further will help Barcelona continue to grow.

“In addition to the business objectives, we want to be closer to our fans, which we will become through FCBEscola and the foundation.

Financial issues have been a problem in Catalonia previously, but the club performed shrewdly this summer in the transfer market, both signing and retaining very high profile players.
