Nigeria Export Promotion Council has reiterated the need for Nigeria to shift from crude oil as the main stay of the economy.
The statement was made by Governor Okezie Ikpeazu of Abia State while meeting with the Executive Director and CEO of Nigeria Export Promotion Council, Olusegun Awolowo at Government House, Umahaia.
Awolowo, whose visit was to intimate the Governor on the systematic plan in place to achieve zero oil export in Nigeria, told the Governor that Nigeria was looking for $30 million in non-oil sector export to secure the Nation’s future and this, according to him, would involve full industrialisation.
The Council believes the volatile nature of the price of crude requires that Nigeria should look at exporting non-oil resources to grow its economy that is purportedly heading towards recession.
The governor commended the revolution and change of emphasis, noting that if an environment that is conducive is provided for the manufacturing sector to thrive, the nation’s economy will bloom.
