Austine Ilenre Emuan, one of the gubernatorial aspirants of the All Progressives Congress in the forthcoming governorship elections in Edo State has taken a swipe at the tax system of the administration of the State Governor, Adams Oshiomhole, accusing him of taxing rent instead of wealth.
Emuan made the accusation while speaking to newsmen at the APC National Secretariat, Abuja after picking his expression of Interest and Nomination forms on Thursday.
The Aspirant while speaking on how he is going to raise more funds to augment the falling Federal Government allocation said ” the people of Edo State want to pay tax, but they are
rebelling against paying tax today because of the way it is at the moment. We are taxing rent, we want to be able to tax wealth, this is the reason why we are going to create a lot of wealth.
Emuan who said he would tackle the state problem base on three major developmental philosophies: Capillary Democracy, Bi-culturalism, and Moral Economy added that his vision for the
state was built on his planned decisive strategies to ensure Edo becomes the next destination for investment.
”I’ve a very creative mind; we have carried out status study to know the problems of Edo State. We have strategies to curtail this problem. My major agenda is to make Edo State most industrilised State in Nigeria. He said.
He lamented the present system that breed terrorism and other social vices because of the huge inequality that existed among the peoples, which said his theory of moral economy is going to be addressed. He stressed that the Capillary Democracy would take power to the people while the concept of bi-culturalism is utilising culture to create wealth in the society.
He explained that his administration will revive the moribund state industries through bail-out as well as provide jobs to the teeming unemployed youth of Edo state.
