About 5,500 people have been provided with free medical treatment by Ganduje Foundation, in collaboration with the International Islamic Relief Organization (IIRO) at Murtala Muhammad Specialist Hospital in Kano city.

Ganduje Foundation is a charity entity floated by Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje to render humanitarian services to the less privilege in the society       
Speaking during the occasion, governor Ganduje explained that the exercise is being free and aimed at bringing specialized ophthalmic services to the door steps of the common man, especially rural dwellers. 
“Under this arrangement, 500 eye surgeries will be conducted while 5,000 other eye cases would be treated free of charge. 
Several eye ailments will be treated and will cover male and female, the young and the old as we are seeing now”, the governor stated.
He pointed out that expatriate eye specialists from the IIRO, will work with their Nigerian counterparts, engaged by the Ganduje Foundation, assuring that patients would be treated using sophisticated equipment and qualitative medicaments.
The governor, therefore, charged prospective beneficiaries of the programme to cooperate with officials conducting the exercise and to abide by medical instructions for the treatment to be successful. 
The governor advised the people to take good care of their eyes in view of their sensitivity, and to avoid patronizing quack doctors and herbalists to prevent visual impairment. 
In a related development, the governor has commissioned renovation and extension works at the Dialysis, Pharmacy and Outpatient departments of Nassarawa Specialist Hospital in the state capital.
He also commissioned a renovated and extended laboratory at the Infectious Diseases Hospital, where he restated determination to provide additional facilities in hospitals and health centers across the state.
Governor Ganduje also inspected the upgrading to Dawakin Cottage Hospital to general hospital, which includes renovation and extension of physical structures. The governor expressed satisfaction with the quality and pace of work, urging the contractor to maintain the trend.
