Blocks of classrooms, roads and health facilities have been handed over to communities in Lagos State, as part of activities to mark the first anniversary of Governor Akinwunmi Ambode-led government.
This was as the governor, at the weekend, charged traditional rulers and community development associations (CDAs) to join hands with the government in tackling the menace of cultism in Lagos.
Ambode spoke in Surulere while commissioning a block of 18 classrooms at Lagos Progressive Senior High School and newly upgraded 900 meters Adekunle Kuye Link Road with drains, walkways and streetlight.
He urged the community leaders to complement the effort of his administration towards development by promoting peace within their localities.
Represented by Olanrewaju Elegushi, his special adviser on transport, he assured the people that the government was committed to a safe, secure and clean community, but people must be security-conscious at all times.
In Lagos Island, Ambode also commissioned the newly rehabilitated Olowogbowo Primary Health Centre (PHC) and network of roads. The road network covers Savage and Onitolo streets.
The health facility located within the Apongbon area was upgraded to function for 24 hours with modern equipment, maternity ward and tuberculosis treatment centre.
Benjamin Olabinjo, special adviser on commerce, industry and cooperatives, who stood in for Ambode, said the projects represented the fulfilment of the governor’s campaign promise to run an all inclusive government in which every Lagosian would feel a sense of belonging.
He said his administration was supporting the 37 local council development areas and the 20 local governments in the state to build 114 roads, two in each council, and 90 percent of state government’s counterpart funding for these projects had been released.
In Mushin, he commissioned a block of 18 classrooms with modern facilities at Oduduwa Senior Secondary School.
Represented by the commissioner for housing, Gbolahan Lawal, Ambode urged the residents to cooperate with the government in order to allow dividends of democracy trickle down.
Represented by Babatunde Durosinmi-Etti, commissioner for wealth creation, Ambode also commissioned 250 metres Bisi Ogabi Street with drainage, solar powered streetlights and customised letter boxes in Ikeja.
