The recent revelation by the Kano State head of service, Muhammad Awwal Na’iya, that under immediate past regime of former governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, huge amount of salaries of public workers in the state were stolen.
The head of service disclosed that a Biometric Data Exercise carried out by his office indicated that money meant for payment of 8,763 ghost workers that their name were criminally inputted into the State Workers Pay Roll was stolen under the regime.
Data released by the head of service’s office last Tuesday, April 12, show that several billions of naira were stolen from the state wallet through fraudulent placement of ghost names on salary pay roll, and the head of service had vowed to prosecute anyone who have direct or indirect link to the act.
This revelation is a further confirmation that the deep rooted acrimony between Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, and his former boss, Kwankwaso is raging, and the relationship between them has completely broken down.
While, the two leaders, are still pretending that they are working towards reconciliation, facts on ground indicates that each of them are quietly encouraging their supporters to launch open verbal attacks against one another on the radio stations in the state.
The supporters loyal to each of the two leaders, have being using political programmes on the private radio stations in the state, such as: ‘Freedom Radio’ ‘ Rahma radio ‘Express Radio’, as well as, public radio houses, such as, ‘Pyramid Radio’, and ‘Radio Kano’, to launch verbal attacks on each other on a daily basis.
Since the on-going crisis between the two leaders become known fully following the violence incidence that broke out between their supporters, each side have being offering money on a daily basis to their supporters to go to the radio stations to say negative things against each of the leaders.
Following the report made to the Presidency by Governor Ganduje, on the violent incidence alleged to have been sponsored by former governor Kwankwaso, during the burial of Ganduje `s mother, President Muhammadu Buhari is said to have directed the national leadership of the All Progressive Congress (APC), to conciliate the two leaders.
Kano is known to be a city where President Buhari got the highest vote in the last General Election, and is considered by many analysts as one of the strongest political base of Buhari.
Also, information gathered shows that the former governor of the state, Malam Ibrahim Shekarau, who is currently a member of the People Democratic Party (PDP), is said to have taken side with Governor Ganduje in the crisis between him, and Kwankwaso.
Sources close to a former aide to former governor Shekarau, on media said that the former governor, and members of the PDP are very happy with the on -going development within the Kwankwasiyya group, as well as the Kano branch of the APC.
The disclosed that former governor Shekarau, believe that the crisis between Governor Ganduje, and his former boss, if continue has the potential of brightening the chance of the PDP in capturing power in Kano state in 2019.
One of the most visible implications of the on-going crisis between the two leaders is that the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC), in the state, has been divided into two factions that are being gradually becoming reconcilable.
The chairman of the party in the state, Alhaji Haruna Umar Doguwa, who initially along with Chairman, Elder`s Committee, Alhaji Audu Kirare, wrote a letter of complaint against Kwankwaso, has been removed as the chairman of the party at the instance of supporters of Ganduje.
At the instance of Governor Ganduje, Malam Abdullahi Abbas Sanusi, a former Commissioner for Environment, who towards the end of the Kwankwaso `s reign had a deep misunderstanding with him, has been installed as the Acting Chairman of the party.
Although the national leadership of the party, particularly, the National Chairman, Chief John Oyegun, is said to be opposed to what was described as illegal removal of former chairman (Doguwa), he is also seems to be taking side with Governor Ganduje in the on-going crisis.
Conclusively, it is now clear that the crisis is getting out of the control of it originators-Governor Ganduje, and his boss, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, and the crisis has also tear the Kano branch of the APC into two irreconcilable factions.
As the crisis rages, it is definite that the two leaders, may find it very difficult to work together in future election, and this could work against the chance of the APC of retailing power in the state in 2019 election.
