To build capacity in renewable energy technologies to achieve sustainable energy solutions that will meet the needs of businesses, governments and the wider society, Cranfield University says it is willing to partner with industries to bridge the gap between knowledge and practice.

In view of this, the University said it wishes to establish relationships with businesses to reduce importing renewable energy solutions from foreign countries so that capacity will be developed in-country.

The university took an exhibition stand at the Nigerian Energy Forum (NEF) event that held at Orientals Hotel, Lekki, Lagos, to showcase their programmes for intending Nigerian post graduate students and let industry practitioners in on the energy programmes available and how they can partner with them to apply the results of their research in practical situations.

Tosin Onabanjo, research fellow in Energy system at Cranfield told BusinessDay that the university offers postgraduate programmes in key areas of water and sanitation, manufacturing, energy and agrifood processing.

“Our objective of being here is to show the benefits that can be derived when we apply the result of research.  If we identify the needs, we can develop technological solutions for it. There is a simple principle of how solar energy works if you can understand the principle then application would not be so difficult.

“There are many innovative products that are coming into Nigeria from outside the country especially from China, our organisation is servicing these countries and but is not really developing capacity in the country.

Therefore we want to use this avenue to talk about how policy, financing in the energy sector, technical aspect, and capacity building can be brought to bear in solving Nigeria’s energy problems, this is why we have decided to partner with the organisers of the event.”

Cranfield University is an exclusively postgraduate university located at the heart of the United Kingdom. It has over four thousand students and an alumni professional network of 58,000 professionals.

It embarks upon professional development by offering customised executive education and works with over 60 clients every year in several locations around the world.

“We unlock the potential of people and organisations by partnering with business and governments to deliver transformational research, postgraduate education and professional development ,” says Onabanjo.

The exhibition stand of the university featured brochures on their programmes and staff from the University who were there to meet industry leaders in the renewable energy industry.
