Not less than nine Nigerian youths have been trained and graduated in Industrial Electronics by German government and Nigerian bodies in the second phase of German Dual Vocational Training Partnership with Nigeria project.
The first phase of the project was kicked off in 2012 and ended in 2015 with scores of Nigerian youths graduating in Industrial Electronics, Industrial Mechanics, and Technical Facility Management and Office Administration professions.
The project is being financed by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), conducted by sequa gGmbH and driven by CCI Giessen-Friedberg as the German project partner, while Nigerian partners for the project include: Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI), Manufacturers Association of Nigeria (MAN), Nigerian German Business Association (NGBA), Chambers of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture from Abuja and Ogun State (ABUCCIMA and OGUNCCIMA).
Speaking relative to the new trend of economic situation in Nigeria during the graduation ceremony held recently at the Industrial Skills Training Centre, Ikeja, German Consul General to Nigeria, Ingo Herbert, remarked that the training became more relevant now that Nigeria is frantically strategizing towards salvaging her economy.
He was of the view that the four aspects of the projects could be harnessed in economic diversification that Nigerian government is working towards.
He precisely said knowledge gained in the project could be applied in agro allied industry apart from chambers of commerce and industry in cities like Lagos.
Speaking on the advantage of the programme, Herbert who hinted that the project has been secured for another three years, said the programme in medium term, was capable of reducing unemployability, improving self- reliance, and building business intelligence and professional skills.
The head of the Examination Board of the training project, Jens Gebhardt, said they had tried to slightly restructure the curriculum in order to soothe system in Nigeria.
Speaking earlier, he noted that Nigeria has huge and viable economy and therefore called on government and other stake holders to wake up to the sustainability of the project in order to boost employability and afterwards harness such huge economy potentials in the country.
