Leading pay TV firm, MultiChoice Nigeria in collaboration with the Nigerian Basketball Federation (NBBF) have announced the start of 2016 DStv Premier Basketball League from Friday 18 March, 2016.
Speaking on the new league season, Martin Mabutho, General Manager, Marketing, MultiChoice Nigeria said MultiChoice has promoted the game of basketball in the country to the extent that the game is fast gaining recognition among Nigeria youth and sports officials; “It is a way of showcasing the Nigerian talents and re-energizing the players for other competition this year” Mabutho said.
Mabutho who highlighted that the basketball games will go live on SuperSport 9 also explained that one of the major focuses of MultiChoice is in sports development. “We know that basketball is a lifestyle sport, which is highly entertaining. It is that excitement that we want to bring to Nigeria. We want basketball to be associated with fun, excitement and family time.” He said.
The President of the Nigerian Basketball Federation (NBBF), Mr. Umar Tijani while commending MultiChoice Nigeria for the sponsorship and support MultiChoice has given to the basketball federation over the years, urged lovers of the game to come out en masse to watch the thrills of the opening games and other side attractions.
Today’s dunk off will see Oluyole Warriors host Kwara Falcons in Ibadan while Nigeria Customs will meet with Royal Hoopers in the Atlantic Conference. Meanwhile, at the Savannah Conference, league defending champions, Mark Mentors, will begin their title defence against Kada Stars of Kaduna in Abuja. Other games expected in the Savannah Conference are Plateau Peaks who take on Gombe Bulls as Niger Potters welcome Nigeria Immigration Service of Kano.
