Pan-African financial services group, United Bank for Africa (UBA) Plc is joining other financial institutions and the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) to celebrate the global money week by holding a financial literacy day event for about 500 students at Imaguero College in Benin City on March 17, 2016.
Phillips Oduoza, Group Managing Director and CEO of the UBA Plc will personally tutor the students on “How you can make your money grow” by helping the students understand the concept of money and how to manage money.
The event, which will be hosted at Imaguero College, Benin City, will also have in attendance students from over 20 different secondary schools in Benin City. The governor and representatives from the ministry of education in Edo State will also be in attendance.
This is the third consecutive year that UBA will be joining the global community and the CBN to celebrate the Global Money Week.
The Global Money Week is a worldwide celebration aimed at creating the next generation of confident, responsible and skilled people with an understanding of the financial system and how it can be tapped into to enhance their welfare.
It brings together; children, youth, parents, organizations and entire communities, to start action to reshape finance, and give young people the tools to shape their own future.
Financial Literacy Day on March 17 th will involve the Nigerian financial community with the support of the CBN going into primary and secondary schools across the nation to teach the basics of Financial Literacy. This will kick start their knowledge of this subject matter, which has an inevitable lasting impact throughout their life cycle.
UBA, over the years, have been at the forefront of engagement with the youths through empowerment programmes aimed at developing their intellectual capacity and making them better people in the society. UBA Foundation, the Corporate Social Responsibility arm of the UBA Group organizes the annual National Essay Competition in Nigeria, Ghana and Senegal to improve the reading, writing and critical thinking skills of African youths. Winners of the competition are usually given an educational grant to study in any African university of their choice.
UBA Foundation also organizes the “Read Africa” initiative, which is aimed at rekindling a reading culture among African youths. The initiative involves a reading and mentoring session in secondary schools and distribution of free literature books to students in schools across Africa.
