It is my great pleasure, on behalf of the Board of Directors of the NEPAD Business Group Nigeria (NBGN), to warmly welcome you to the maiden edition of the NBGN Quarterly Webinar Series.
We are honoured by your presence and sincerely appreciate your decision to join us for what promises to be a timely, thought-provoking, and solution-orientated engagement. Your participation reflects our shared commitment to promoting sustainable economic development, strengthening Africa’s competitiveness, and advancing meaningful collaboration among the public sector, private sector, development partners, academia, and civil society.
I wish to extend a very special welcome to our distinguished guest speaker, our esteemed panellists, and our accomplished moderator. We are deeply grateful that you have accepted our invitation to share your knowledge, perspectives, and practical experiences on issues that are of strategic importance not only to Nigeria but also to the African continent and the global business community.
Ladies and gentlemen,
The establishment of the NBGN Quarterly Webinar Series is a deliberate strategic initiative of the Board to create a sustainable platform for high-level policy dialogue, knowledge exchange, and collaborative problem-solving. Through this platform, NBGN seeks to facilitate informed conversations on emerging national, regional, and global issues that influence economic development, investment, trade, enterprise competitiveness, and sustainable prosperity.
Today’s theme, “Global Challenges: Survival Strategies, Building Resilience and Driving Sustainable Prosperity”, could not be more relevant.
The global landscape is undergoing profound transformation. Geopolitical tensions, economic uncertainty, climate-related risks, technological disruption, changing trade dynamics, demographic shifts, and evolving development financing models continue to reshape the operating environment for governments, businesses, and societies. These developments present significant challenges, but they also create opportunities for innovation, strategic partnerships, and sustainable growth.
Against this backdrop, this webinar has been convened with three principal objectives.
First, it seeks to provide a platform for examining contemporary global and regional developments and their implications for Africa’s economic transformation and private-sector development.
Second, it aims to strengthen the capacity of business leaders, policymakers, institutions, and other stakeholders to anticipate change, manage risks proactively, build resilient organisations, and position themselves to seize emerging opportunities in an increasingly dynamic global environment.
Third, this webinar series is designed to build on the outcomes and strategic conversations that emerged from the NBGN High-Level Business Forum, particularly our collective resolve to deepen public-private dialogue, strengthen institutional partnerships, promote enterprise resilience, and mobilise Africa’s private sector as a key driver of inclusive and sustainable economic development. Rather than allowing those conversations to end with the Forum, NBGN is committed to sustaining them through structured engagements that translate ideas into practical actions and enduring partnerships.
Distinguished participants,
At NBGN, we firmly believe that Africa’s future prosperity will depend not only on the abundance of its natural and human resources but also on the quality of its institutions, the resilience of its businesses, the strength of its partnerships, and its ability to innovate and respond effectively to an ever-changing global environment.
No single institution, sector, or country can successfully address today’s complex challenges in isolation. Sustainable progress requires stronger collaboration among governments, the private sector, development partners, academia, civil society, and other critical stakeholders. It is through such collaboration that we can unlock investment, accelerate innovation, create decent jobs, strengthen regional integration, and improve the quality of life for our people.
I therefore encourage every participant to take full advantage of today’s discussions by engaging actively, sharing perspectives, asking insightful questions, and exploring opportunities for future collaboration. I am confident that the wealth of knowledge and experience assembled here today will enrich our understanding and inspire practical solutions that will benefit our organisations, our economies, and our continent.
Before I conclude, let me once again express our sincere appreciation to our guest speaker, panellists, moderator, members of the organising and technical committees, our partners, and every participant for contributing to the success of this important initiative.
It is now my singular honour and privilege to formally declare the maiden edition of the NBGN Quarterly Webinar Series open.
I wish you all a rewarding, engaging, and impactful webinar.
Thank you, and God bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria and the African continent.
