The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has commenced its 2026 recruitment exercise, inviting suitably qualified Nigerians to apply for employment into various entry-level positions across the country.
According to an advertorial released by the Commission the recruitment is aimed at strengthening INEC’s institutional capacity in electoral administration, voter registration, data management, election logistics, and other critical electoral operations.
Vacant Positions And Grade Levels
INEC announced vacancies across three categories:
1. Professional Cadre – Grade Level 09, 10 and 12
Positions include Lawyers, Clinical Officers, IT Officers, Engineers, Accountants, etc.
Applicants must have a Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent, and Master’s Degree where applicable, from a government-recognized institution. NYSC discharge/exemption certificate, professional certifications such as COREN, ICAN, MDCN, COBN are required. Applicants must also demonstrate practical knowledge and proficiency in computer applications.
2. Administrative Officer II (Registration Area Officer) – Grade Level 08
Candidates must possess a Bachelor’s Degree or Higher National Diploma in Social Sciences, Humanities, or Sciences. Good knowledge of data management, record keeping, and proficiency in Microsoft Office and ICT tools are required.
3. Executive Officer (Assistant Registration Area Officer) – Grade Level 07
Applicants must have a National Certificate in Education, NCE, or equivalent qualification. Basic knowledge of computer operations and the ability to work under supervision in assigned Registration Areas are also required.
General Requirements
INEC stated that applicants must:
– Be Nigerian citizens by birth or descent
– Present a valid Certificate of State of Origin signed by LGA Chairman or Secretary
– Be between 18 and 35 years of age at the point of application
– Be physically and mentally fit with a certificate from a government medical officer
– Have no criminal record and be willing to serve anywhere in Nigeria

INEC stressed that only shortlisted candidates will be invited for the next stage of the exercise.
Important Notices
The Commission warned that:
– Applications will be assessed strictly based on submitted credentials
– No upgrading of qualifications will be allowed after submission
– Multiple applications will lead to automatic disqualification
– Submission of false information or forged documents will attract disqualification and possible prosecution
