The national leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has cautioned the Independent National Election (INEC) and the military not to interfere with the will of electorate ahead of the supplementary governorship poll in Bayelsa State.

The acting national chairman of PDP, Uche Secondus, who stated this at a press briefing in Abuja on Thursday, said the country was already faced with too much challenges and could not afford to be have a breakdown of law and order in the oil-rich state.

INEC had declared the governorship election in Bayelsa State inconclusive, following the cancellation of the elections in Southern Ijaw Local Government Area (LGA), with over 120,000 registered voters.

Secondus, who said Bayelsa remains a PDP stronghold, warned the military of consequence if it interferes in the wishes of the people, alleging that there were confirmed cases of hijack of electoral materials under the watch of security agents who allegedly intimidated voters.

He advised security agencies not to be partisan at this stage, saying their duty is to protect the territorial integrity of the country.

“The report that we got from Southern Ijaw was indeed alarming and discouraging. They must not allow our country to run into crises. They are there to protect not to participate, our country is not like those country where the military has shares in political offices.

“Unless you change our constitution, if the military wants to participate in politics then the constitution must be changed”, he stated.
