Plateau community boils after gunmen kill two women

Tension gripped the Gero community in Jos South Local Government Area of Plateau State after suspected gunmen killed two women, sparking protests by residents.

The victims were found dead in the early hours of Monday in the Gero community, behind the Jos South Local Government Secretariat.

Angered by the killings, women and youths marched to the Jos South Local Government Secretariat carrying the bodies of the deceased and demanding urgent action from the authorities.

They also blocked parts of the road leading to the secretariat, disrupting traffic as they called for improved security and justice for the victims.

Mary Chollom, one of the protesters, condemned the killings, describing them as another painful reflection of the security challenges facing communities across Plateau State.

“We are tired of burying our loved ones. These women did nothing to deserve this. Government and security agencies must take decisive action to stop these senseless killings and ensure those responsible are brought to justice.”

She appealed to the federal and state governments to strengthen security operations in vulnerable communities and urged security agencies to intensify surveillance, identify those behind the attack and bring them to justice.

Security personnel were later deployed to the Jos South Local Government Secretariat and surrounding areas, while calm gradually returned to the community.

Efforts to get official confirmation from Alfred Alabo, the spokesperson of the Plateau State Police Command, were unsuccessful as of the time of filing this report.
