UNAN inducts over 20 Nigerian youths into association’s youth wing

 

 

The United Nations Association of Nigeria (UNAN), has inducted over 20 Nigerian youth into the Youth Wing of the association.

The event which held in Lagos, aimed to equip young people with leadership skills, promote the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals, and deepen youth participation in peace building and governance.

Speaking at the induction ceremony, president UNAN, Oluremi Olutimo described it as the beginning of an exciting journey of service, leadership, learning, and meaningful contribution by the inductees to the association’s shared values.

According to Olutimo who is a professor: “By choosing to become part of this movement, you have demonstrated a commitment to values that transcend personal interests.

“You are joining a community of young people dedicated to promoting peace, sustainable development, human rights, global cooperation, and active citizenship.

“Your energy, creativity, and passion are vital assets that will strengthen our organisation and expand its impact across Nigeria.

“As you take this important step, I encourage you not to see your induction as the destination but, as the starting point of greater responsibility.

“Be active participants in every programme and initiative. Volunteer your time, contribute your ideas, and work collaboratively with fellow members. The success of this Youth Wing will not depend on a few individuals but on the collective commitment and dedication of every member,’’ he added.

He also urged the newly inducted youth members of UNAN to be supportive of one another and of the leadership of the association adding, “Let us build a culture of teamwork, integrity, respect, innovation, and excellence.

‘’Together, we can create a vibrant youth platform that inspires positive change within our communities and serves as a model for youth engagement across the nation’’.

While stating that the future of UNAN is closely linked to the strength of its young people, he challenged them to dream boldly, lead courageously, and serve selflessly.

On her part, Carolyn commended the newly inducted youth adding, “young people had the ideas, energy, discipline, and the courage to lead. What they didn’t have was the platform, the trust, or the seat in the table.

“So being part of the UN family, even at the youth wing level, means people will expect you to understand the Sustainable Development Goals, not as slogans, but as tools”.

Also speaking at the event, a representative of the United Nations Association of Sierra Leone, Junisa Kal called on young people to commit more fully to service, noting that “dedication before service is what makes it rewarding.’’
