The leadership of the Accord Party at the state level has thrown its weight behind Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke, passing a vote of confidence in the governor and pledging to mobilise support for his re-election ahead of the August 15, 2026 governorship election.

The endorsement came as the party’s state chairmen also announced the indefinite postponement of the National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting earlier scheduled for Thursday, July 16, in Abuja, describing the decision as a mark of honour for Adeleke.

The resolutions were reached during a meeting of the party’s state chairmen in the Federal Capital Territory and contained in a communique signed by Iliyas Badanga, chairman of the Accord Party State Chairmen Forum and the party’s Kogi State chairman.

The communique, jointly endorsed by chairmen from 27 states and the Federal Capital Territory, signals a rare show of unity within the party while underscoring its political alignment with Adeleke as preparations intensify for the Osun governorship poll.

Although Accord Party did not provide further details on why the NEC meeting was deferred in honour of the governor, the endorsement is expected to strengthen Adeleke’s campaign by adding the support of another registered political party to his re-election efforts.

Among those who co-signed the communique were the party chairmen from Jigawa, Cross River, Kaduna, Sokoto, Zamfara, Enugu, Katsina, Kano, Ekiti, Adamawa, Ebonyi, Kwara, Gombe, the FCT, Abia, Delta, Borno, Bauchi, Taraba, Kebbi, Niger, Akwa Ibom, Ogun, Oyo, Ondo and Lagos states.

The chairmen said their decisions followed what they described as careful deliberations on the affairs and future direction of the party.

According to the communique, the Accord leadership unanimously agreed to defer the NEC meeting to a later date and expressed confidence in Adeleke’s leadership.

“We unanimously defer our NEC meeting earlier scheduled today, July 16, 2026, to a further date in honour of Governor Ademola Adeleke,” the communique stated.

It further declared: “We unanimously pass a vote of confidence in Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State and pledge to mobilise members towards his re-election bid.”

The communique concluded with an assurance that the Accord Party “remains strong and united,” signalling the state chairmen’s determination to maintain cohesion within the party as political activities gather momentum ahead of the 2026 electoral cycle.

The endorsement adds another dimension to the political calculations ahead of the Osun governorship election, where parties are intensifying consultations, alliances and grassroots mobilisation in the final weeks before voters head to the polls.
