Beatrice Siyanbola, a Nigerian-born chemical engineer, has won the Energy and Utilities category at the 2026 WeAreTheCity Rising Star Awards, recognising her contribution to engineering, energy investment and industry leadership.
Siyanbola, who works as a Valuation Analyst at Shell, supports investment decisions for energy projects across Europe and Asia. Her role combines engineering, finance, regulation and commercial analysis to assess projects valued at more than US$500 million.
The award marks another milestone in a career that has taken her from engineering operations to investment analysis within the global energy industry.
She began her career in Shell’s Scottish gas value chain as a Planning and Performance Engineer, where she supported asset management and operational performance. She later took on leadership responsibilities at a gas processing plant, gaining experience in the operation of critical energy infrastructure.
One of the defining moments in her career came when she served as Co-Operations Lead during the inspection and shutdown of a major product storage vessel that affected up to 15% of the United Kingdom’s domestic gas supply. The assignment provided experience in managing operational risk and coordinating work across multiple teams, knowledge she now applies when evaluating energy investment opportunities.
Beyond her role at Shell, Siyanbola contributes to the wider energy sector through policy and professional development initiatives. She serves on the Advisory Board of Grid-UK, chaired by former UK Minister of State for Energy Security and Net Zero Greg Hands. She also participates in discussions through the European Youth Energy Network and mentors young professionals through Upreach and Girls in Energy.
Through these programmes, she has mentored more than 20 early-career professionals, helping them prepare for careers in engineering and the energy sector.
“WeAreTheCity Rising Star Awards celebrate emerging leaders creating impact within their organisations and across their industries,” the organisers said.
For Siyanbola, the recognition reflects years of work across engineering, operations and investment analysis, while highlighting the growing role of Nigerian professionals in shaping decisions within the global energy industry.
