The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has released activists Randy Peter and Mama Pee after both honoured an invitation by the anti-graft agency at its headquarters in Abuja.
The duo regained their freedom shortly after midnight on Wednesday after spending about 11 hours at the commission’s office, where they were questioned by officials.
They were, however, directed to return to the EFCC headquarters on Thursday for further engagement.
Their release was confirmed by Justice Cracks, an activist who accompanied them to the EFCC office and shared an update in a post on X.
According to him, the activists arrived at the EFCC headquarters at about 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, July 15, and remained there for several hours before they were allowed to leave.
“My dear brother, @Peter4Nigeria, and my sister, @MamaPee__ were invited by the @officialEFCC. I personally accompanied them there on the afternoon of 15th July 2026, at about 1:00 p.m. It was a very long day,” he wrote.
Justice Cracks said the pair were eventually released at about 12:00 a.m. on Wednesday and instructed to return to the commission the following day.
“They were eventually released at around 12:00 a.m. and were asked to return the following day, 16th July 2026. For now, everything is fine,” he added.
He also shared a video recorded from the car park of the EFCC headquarters while waiting for the activists to conclude their meeting with officials.
Earlier in the day, concerns had grown over the whereabouts of Randy Peter and Mama Pee after Esther Umoh, who served as the 2023 campaign photographer for Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi, disclosed on X that the activists had not been released several hours after honouring the EFCC invitation.
According to Umoh, the activists voluntarily responded to the commission’s invitation but remained inside the agency’s office long after their arrival, prompting fears among supporters.
The prolonged questioning fuelled speculation on social media that the pair had been arrested.
However, Justice Cracks later clarified that they had been released and would return to the EFCC headquarters on Thursday in compliance with the commission’s directive.
As of the time of filing this report, the EFCC had not disclosed the reason for inviting the two activists for questioning.
