Gbenga Alade, the managing director and chief executive officer of the Asset Management Corporation of Nigeria (AMCON), has received the African Business Leadership Special Commendation Award at the 16th African Business Leadership Awards (ABLA) held in London, United Kingdom.

Alade was honoured at a ceremony held at the Cromwell Committee Room 4A, House of Lords, Westminster, on July 3, 2026. The event was organised by the African Leadership Organisation, publishers of African Leadership Magazine.

In addition to the award, the AMCON chief executive was inducted into the African Leadership Council (ALC), a platform that brings together political, business and institutional leaders across the continent.

According to the African Leadership Organisation, chaired by former Tanzanian President Jakaya Kikwete, Alade was selected for the honour in recognition of his contributions to Africa’s business and financial management landscape.

In a letter conveying the award, the Founder and Executive Chairman of African Leadership Magazine, Dr. Ken Giami, said Alade’s recognition reflected his leadership within Africa’s financial and economic management ecosystem.

The letter also noted that, alongside the African Business Leadership Special Commendation Award, Alade would receive a Special Commendation from the U.S. State of South Carolina, describing it as further recognition of Africa’s growing influence in global financial leadership and strengthening institutional ties between African economic institutions and stakeholders in the United States.

As part of the event, Alade participated in an exclusive interview session that will feature in a special edition of African Leadership Magazine dedicated to this year’s award recipients and distributed to policymakers, institutional investors, development finance institutions, corporate executives, and multilateral organisations.

The organisers said Alade joins a list of previous recipients that includes Julius Maada Bio, Évariste Ndayishimiye, Adama Barrow, Abiy Ahmed, Jakaya Kikwete and Akinwumi Adesina.

The two-day event, held between July 2 and 3, also featured an address by the Governor of Imo State, Hope Uzodimma, who was represented by one of the state’s commissioners.

Alade was accompanied to the ceremony by AMCON’s Executive Director, Asset Management, Aminu Mukhtar Dan Amu, board member Charles Iyore, and the corporation’s Head of Corporate Communications, Jude Nwauzor.
