After few years the electronic money transfer has become possible in Nigeria following the emergence of internet, Verve International, a payment card brand is taking this a step further as it launched revolutionary mobile app, ‘Verve World’, which enables cardholders to store all their payment options and to carry out everyday transactions without physically using their cards.
Unveiling the innovation to stakeholders, the management of Verve International said users of innovation can store payment instruments from all major card brands in Nigeria. In addition to debit, credit and prepaid cards, and Verve eCash, bank accounts can also be added to the app.
The app features ‘Paycode’, Verve’s latest innovation. Users of the Verve World app can generate a ‘Verve Paycode’, a unique one-time code valid for 24 hours, which can be used to withdraw cash from an ATM machine without a card. The Verve Paycode can be sent to a loved one or friend to withdraw a pre-set amount of money from most ATMs in the country.
Explaining further, the managing director of Verve International Charles Ifedi said the World App is an application “we have introduced for users to add all their various cards in to one place, so that users can have one App that manages all their cards. The reason we introduced this is because many people have different Apps and each App can only manage one card or one account”.
He said with this latest App users can do funds transfer, recharge, engage in payments and the user can generate a paycode which can be used at ATMs or POS. He said the Paycode is the main feature in the App because irrespective of which card or account the user has, he/she can generate a paycode and use it to withdraw money from ATM without a card or send the Paycode to someone to withdraw money from ATM.
On the challenge of a user losing his/her phone since all the cards will be stored in a phone, Ifedi said every time the user launches the App, it will require a user name and password. “So if someone steals the phone, the person needs to know the user name and password. Again, before a paycode is generated it will require the pin of the card. These three steps will be difficult for someone who steals the phone to generate. So the innovation is much secured”, he said.
“Verve Paycode is the latest in a string of initiatives and partnerships as Verve International continues to innovate and consolidate its leading position in payment transactions and services across Africa. The service opens a new range of possibilities for users and also offers a new level of security as cardholders can still carry out regular transactions as usual without the need to move around with a physical wallet”.
He further said that “the Verve World app has been tailored specifically for the African market and is an example of how, here at Verve International, we continue to push the boundaries of technological innovation to address local payment challenges. We continue to see growing demand from our cardholders for easy, secure and convenient payment methods irrespective of the payment instrument being used. Therefore we designed the app to address the need for urgent access to cash without a card, through Verve Paycode”.
Launched in 2009, Verve is a foremost payment card brand in Nigeria and is rapidly expanding issuance and acceptance across the African continent. Verve is currently issued in five African countries: Nigeria, Ghana, Uganda, Kenya and Gambia and accepted in 19 countries.
