Tunji Disu, inspector-general of Police, has warned political thugs and their sponsors against fomenting trouble ahead of the Osun State governorship election, declaring that it would no longer be business as usual for perpetrators of political violence.

Disu said that anyone involved in killings or other violent crimes would be arrested and prosecuted, stressing that no offender would be allowed to evade justice.

“Nobody will commit a crime and go scot-free. You can’t kill a person or anybody and think you can walk around freely. That is why I left Abuja to come here and talk with you today,” the IGP said.

Disu warned those planning to unleash violence during the election to abandon such plans, insisting that human life remained sacred.

“Those who are planning to kill, let them know it is not going to be business as usual. Human life is sacred and nobody has the right to take that life.”

The police chief said that records available to him showed that more than 20 people had been killed within a few months, adding that the state was preparing for an election and not a war.

He disclosed that the police had received reports and counter-reports against different political camps and assured that investigations would be carried out without bias.

Disu also revealed that he raised with Governor Ademola Adeleke an allegation that some wanted persons were being kept in the Government House, adding that the governor responded that even his own child should be arrested if found committing a crime.

The IGP assured political parties of adequate security during campaigns and the governorship election, saying the police would provide a conducive environment for all political activities.
