Orca Deco expands frontiers, set to build its second mall in Abuja

 

 

Orca Deco, which is currently redefining retail business in Lagos with its ambitious and disruptive mall located in the upscale Eko Atlantic City, has expanded its frontiers to Abuja, Nigeria’s federal capital territory.

Orca Deco is a Senegal-based Pan-African global furniture retail company. Riding on the huge success that the Lagos outlet has recorded within a short time, the company is now building its second outlet in Maitama, Abuja.

Orca Mall Abuja will be located along the Maitama-Asokoro Road, in Maitama II (Maitama Extension), with a confirmed gross built-up area of 43,000 square metres (sqm) and an estimated construction completion in the fourth quarter of 2027.

Estate Intel, in a recent report, notes that a project team has already been set up, listing confirmed project team members as Orca Group, as the developer, and ITB Nigeria Limited, as the main contractor.

“The scale of this project at 43,000 sqm, although slightly smaller than Orca Mall Lagos with 50,000 sqm, shows a commitment to establishing retail presence across Nigeria’s key urban centres, with delivery of multiple malls planned across the country by 2030,” the report says.

The Maitama location also places the mall in an affluent district, strategically positioned to become a major retail anchor in Abuja’s commercial landscape.

The estate intel report notes that the Abuja formal retail pipeline has remained stable since 2018, with Novare Central serving as the last major A- or B-Grade completion.

The report adds that the city’s retail market is traditionally dominated by plaza-format malls, which feature small individual shops, and informal retail activity remains concentrated in key hubs such as Wuse, Garki, Lugbe, Gudu and others.

“On the other hand, formal developments in the city centre, such as Novare Central and Novare Apo, have demonstrated relatively stable performance despite current economic challenges,” the report stated.
