The Lagos State Fire Service said it has contained a fire that engulfed a five-million-litre diesel storage tank at Bono Energy Storage Terminal in Apapa on Friday.

According to the agency, the blaze involved a storage tank containing Automotive Gas Oil (AGO), commonly known as diesel, at the Bono Energy Terminal within the Ibru Jetty Complex along the Apapa–Oworonshoki Expressway.

The Service said it received a distress call at 12:04 p.m. and deployed firefighters from its Ajegunle, Sari Iganmu and Isolo stations, who arrived at the terminal minutes later. The fire was completely extinguished by 1:54 p.m. by the state fire service and emergency response teams from neighbouring oil and gas facilities.

“The prompt intervention prevented the fire from spreading to adjoining tanks and critical infrastructure, thereby minimising potential losses,” the agency said on X.

No casualties were recorded, while the cause of the fire is yet to be established and remains under investigation.

The Bono Energy Storage Terminal (BEST), a petroleum storage facility established by Bono Energy Group and Gladius Commodities stores gasoline, gasoil, aviation turbine, kerosene, and base oil with an overall storage capacity of 47,350 metric tonnes.
