The family of the ailing deputy governor of Taraba State, Alhaji Aminu Alkali, has stated that the state government has shown unwavering love during their father’s health crisis, as he fell ill while serving the state.
Ibrahim Aminu Alkali, the first son of the deputy governor, shared this while speaking with BusinessDay at the deputy governor’s residence in Jalingo, the Taraba State capital, on Wednesday.
He mentioned that the family has observed significant improvement in their father’s condition since he became ill nearly two years ago.
Ibrahim responded to a recent social media report claiming that Kefas had abandoned his deputy and family during his sick leave.
“I appreciate the governor of Taraba State, Kefas Agbu, for the show of love to us; I mean his response to the illness of my father. Without Kefas and God, things would have been difficult for all of us in the family.
“Despite all the political pressures and rumours circulating, he remained steadfast in his love for our father. It is natural; everyone is prone to falling ill, and that happened to our father, but the governor stood firmly behind him.
“He sponsored all medical bills for him. From the first hospital, our father was taken to Egypt for further treatment, returned to Nigeria, and now he is undergoing routine medical checks in Abuja, where we are witnessing great improvement in his health.
Ibrahim revealed that, apart from providing funds for his father’s medical treatment, the governor also goes the extra mile by making personal visits to see the progress firsthand.
Ibrahim urged people in Taraba State who are using his father’s illness to pursue political goals to desist from such acts, emphasising that Kefas’s support for his father and entire family during this difficult time was immeasurable.
Also speaking, Usman Madu, the Permanent Secretary in the office of the deputy governor, told our correspondent that all entitlements due to Deputy Governor Alhaji Aminu Alkali are consistently paid on time.
Madu stated that Governor Kefas has been very responsive whenever there are issues concerning the deputy’s health; he said the governor did not hesitate to approve memos related to Aminu Alkali’s medical expenses since his illness began.
It is recalled that the Taraba State deputy governor, Aminu Alkali, fell ill on 11 November 2024, sparking political tension in the state. Many politicians believed that Governor Kefas should relieve the ailing deputy of his duties and appoint a new deputy to complete the ailing deputy’s first term in office.
